How to Calculate Elevation in IRON NEST

Multiply the distance in kilometers by 12, then divide by the selected powder charge.

Elevation formula

elevation = 12 × distance(km) ÷ charges

The three values

Distance is the target range, powder charge is an integer from 1 through 6, and elevation is the gun setting in degrees.

Kilometers and meters

Use kilometers directly. Convert meters to kilometers by dividing by 1,000 before applying the formula.

Automatic minimum charge

The minimum charge is ceil(distance ÷ 5). This keeps the verified elevation at or below 60 degrees.

Worked examples

  1. 1.00 km, charge 1 → 12.00°Use 1.00 km, charge 1 → 12.00° in the calculator
  2. 5.00 km, charge 1 → 60.00°Use 5.00 km, charge 1 → 60.00° in the calculator
  3. 5.01 km, charge 2 → 30.06°Use 5.01 km, charge 2 → 30.06° in the calculator
  4. 7.35 km, charge 2 → 44.10°Use 7.35 km, charge 2 → 44.10° in the calculator
  5. 12.91 km, charge 3 → 51.64°Use 12.91 km, charge 3 → 51.64° in the calculator

Verified limits

A charge is unreachable above 60°. Results below 12° are withheld because the current evidence set does not verify that low-angle range.

Common mistakes

Check kilometer-versus-meter units, use an integer charge from 1 through 6, and round only the final elevation display.
